Delving into WWA

We hope you remained safe during Typhoon Yagi last weekend, and we were thrilled to be reunited with the Turtle Class children again on Monday!

Let's take a look at what we have been exploring recently in class...

The children have settled well into their new learning environment and they are becoming more aware of the routines that we have in class. We have been very impressed by how quickly the children have settled and how they have shown confidence in their ability to navigate their way around the classroom when accessing resources independently to enhance their play experiences. We are also thrilled to see how well the children are playing together in class and during Open Play time.

Discovering our wider school community

To help the Turtle Class become familiar with teachers in other K2 classes and our school admin team, our Class Turtle (Tilly) set the children a treasure hunt task around Hillside The Turtle Class had to use their observational skills, communication skills and thinking skills during this fun task!

Exploring feelings and self-regulation skills

We have been busy inquiring into and labelling emotions through a variety of stories and activities in class. After reading "The Colour Monster" story, written by Anna Llenas, we practised a number of self-regulation strategies to help calm our bodies when we sometimes feel excited/angry/sad. We practised belly breathing after watching the following video. The Turtle Class has also enjoyed learning how to take rainbow breaths and quick five-finger breathing techniques - ask your child to demonstrate some of these breathing techniques with you at home!

Co-constructing our play spaces

The Turtle Class has had many creative ideas, which they've excitedly shared during our weekly classroom planning sessions. Most recently the class collaborated to create a Police Station, which they are hoping to transform into a 'Superhero headquarters' very soon! Watch this space...

Coming up...

As we inquire further into the WWA unit, we will unpack the concept of responsibility. Next week we will focus on problem-solving and building an understanding of the importance of teamwork/collaboration. We will also be sharing ideas on how the children can develop responsibility at home!
