How The World Works (HTWW)
Dear Turtle Class Families,
It has been so wonderful reconnecting with the class after the October half-term break, and it was great to share some of the adventures that the children had experienced during their holidays!
We began our week by discussing the changes in weather we have noticed recently and the further changes that we are yet to see, with the change of seasons. We had some wonderful discussions about Autumn and how it can look and feel in different places around the world.
The Turtle Class were encouraged to be inquisitive and to explore a variety of real and unreal natural materials in class that were related to Autumn, which led to many discussions about colour, weight, size and the properties of the various materials. These activities are preparing the class for further scientific investigations throughout this current unit of inquiry - How The World Works (HTWW). The Central Idea for this unit can be seen below:
"People can design and create through playful exploration."
To begin the class thinking about the design process, we asked the boys and girls to think of some ideas for our new play space, which we will co-construct together next week. The class participated in a Visible Thinking Routine, which we will use regularly with the class this year, called 'Chalk Talk'. The class will vote for the most popular ideas for our new play space today in order for us to begin creating the space next week!
The Turtle Class were also treated to some yummy popcorn for working so well as a team over the past couple of weeks. The class were rewarded with filling a glass jar with pompoms each time they demonstrated teamwork during transitions and when tidying up in the classroom. Once the jar was filled with pompoms, the class were asked to choose their 'special prize/reward', and on this occasion, they chose to make popcorn! Keep up the great teamwork Turtles, so that we can continue filling the teamwork jar and receive more exciting rewards!
