We Are Scientists!

 Dear Turtle Class Families,

We have continued to have lots of exciting explorations in class when investigating materials and their uses in our everyday lives. From reading The Three Little Pigs story to exploring what materials our toys are made from and seeing which toys are suitable for taking into the bathtub, we began thinking of which materials are appropriate for a waterproof task. The class have had fun this week choosing materials they think would be best for making a waterproof raincoat for Tilly the Turtle and her friends!

We would like to say a HUGE thank you to all of our parents who took time out of their busy schedules to come to Hillside to share their expertise with the Turtle Class children! From exploding volcanoes to architecture to exploring the light spectrum, to learning about neural networks in our brains, to participating in a 'magic kitchen' experiment and having our grande finale activity which consisted of learning about ice molecules through making delicious ice cream!

If you would like to recreate our homemade ice cream experiment, Bethany's daddy, Dr. Benny Ng has kindly created the following slide deck which provides instructions and video demonstrations. Please click on the image below:

After reading the book, 'Be a Maker', written by Katey Howes, the Turtle Class was inspired to create a list of items they would like to make and prepare to celebrate Christmas! We are excited to begin making gingerbread biscuits, a Christmas tree, a snowman, and a variety of Christmas decorations all planned by the children.

We extend our warmest wishes to families who celebrated Thanksgiving last week and we hoped you had a wonderful time spent with your loved ones!
