Celebrating Winter and Lunar New Year Together!
Dear Families,
Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our classroom activities. Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring the themes of winter and Lunar New Year celebrations.
We learned about staying warm and activities related to winter through the story “凯蒂在冬天” (Katie in Winter) and enhanced the languages by colouring the winter clothes.
We are also delighted to bring you some exciting news about celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year! As we approach this festive occasion, our little ones are all engaged in learning about and embracing the rich traditions and customs associated with this joyous celebration.
We started learning about the festive activities such as people greeting each other with good blessings and children getting red pockets from adults through the story “Lunar New Year”.
We made a cupcake holder dragon to welcome the Year of Sanke and experienced writing Chinese calligraphy.
During the Chinese Assembly time, we learned the origin of the Chinese zodiac through a traditional tale and saying “Happy Lunar New Year” to everyone.
Big “Thank you” to the parents who came to school as volunteers and engaged in our open play as well! Let’s explore the wonders of the Lunar New Year together!
Dragon Dance & Lion Dance
Ring Toss Game
Sugar-coated fruit sticks
Hui Chun Making
As the highlight of the celebration, our children watched the Dragon Dance and Lion Dance show performed by Bradbury students. Seeing the Lions playfully swaying their heads and tails and the dragons chasing the “pearl”, everyone enjoyed the immersive happiness of the Lunar New Year!
All of the stories/theme-related stories and songs have already been attached to the K2 Learning Slide, they would be a helpful resource for you to consolidate the language with your kids at home.
We update our Chinese albums weekly and it is a fantastic tool for you to prompt your child to talk about what they have been doing and learning on Chinese days. Please kindly go through the album with your child from time to time.
Please contact me if you have any inquiries by joey.zhao@hillside.edu.hk, thank you!
Wish you and your families a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Snake!
