Exciting Updates from Our Classroom!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

I hope this message finds you well! I wanted to take a moment to share some exciting updates from our classroom.

We have embarked on a new unit titled "How We Express Ourselves." 

As a part of this unit's incursion, we had the privilege of welcoming Fai Shi Fu, the puppetry master, who captivated our students with a mesmerising performance featuring string puppets.

The children not only enjoyed the show but also learned about the rich history and theory behind the puppets' movements. Their engagement with the monkey's tricks was a joy to see, and many were eager to try their hand at moving the little lion puppets.





In this unit, we are learning essential emotion vocabulary, including words such as happy, sad, angry, scared, calm, and love. Through engaging stories like "Colour Monsters"(我的情绪小怪兽） ", Crying Princess" （爱哭公主）and "Angry Prince" （生气王子）, we are exploring different emotions and discussing ways to cope with them.









The children have particularly enjoyed the board game "Colour Monsters' Running Race," where they cheered for their favourite emotions by calling out their names.





To enhance our learning, the children created facial expressions using felt features to represent various emotions. They also discussed the feelings of the characters in the stories and what may have caused those emotions.


                                                   

During K2 assembly time, we read "I Turned into a Fire-breathing Dragon" （我变成了一只喷火龙）, which helped reinforce our vocabulary about emotions and feelings.


As we transition from emotions to hobbies, the children have been sharing what they enjoy doing and even illustrating their hobbies.







Through the story "100 Rabbits Want to Sing" （100只兔子想唱歌）, we have discussed the importance of pursuing our passions, even when faced with challenges. These discussions have sparked meaningful conversations about perseverance and following our dreams.



We are pleased to announce the creation of a dedicated YouTube playlist featuring the songs we have been singing in our sessions. We encourage you to let your child listen to these engaging songs and sing along. This interactive experience not only enhances enjoyment but also significantly enriches their vocabulary and language skills. By immersing themselves in the rhythm and melody, children can better retain new words and phrases, making learning both fun and effective.

Taking Action in the Early Years

  Dear Turtle Class Families, We have continued to inquire into Causation and Responsibility in regard to taking care of our planet Earth. The children were asked the following question, "Where does all of our rubbish go?" We were very impressed with some of the children's prior knowledge who responded with, "A dumpsite!" We explored how lots of our rubbish cannot be recycled and therefore it is sent to a landfill, which can be a problem for our planet Earth. We watched a small clip from the Disney movie Wall-E, which also highlighted the importance of recycling and caring for our planet.  These are some funny clips from the movie too: The class then explored a variety of other ways in which we can help take care of our planet. How We Express Ourselves

Welcome back to our final Term in the Turtle Class! It only feels like yesterday when the Turtle Class transitioned into their new K2 learning space from the K1 Dolphin Class!  We are looking forward to a fun-filled Term 3 together. This week, we began tuning into our new unit of inquiry - 'How We Express Ourselves (HWEO). This unit's central idea will focus on the following: "People can express their imagination and ideas in different ways."  On Thursday, we received a very special gift from a famous story character named Jack from the Jack and the Beanstalk story. Jack gifted us some magic beans, which we plan to plant and eagerly await our very own giant beanstalks to grow! Sharing The Planet (STP)

 Dear Turtle Class Families, We are in full swing of our current unit of inquiry (UOI) - Sharing The Planet (STP), which the class have been thoroughly enjoying! To find out more about this unit please see a recent blog post from Brenda, our PYP Coordinator, HERE . One of our Learner Profile attributes that we will be exploring further in this unit is how to be effective inquirers, from using technology to exploring outside, asking questions and using books to help us search for answers to our wondering. The class became aware that there are different types of books in our school library - Fictional texts and Non-Fictional texts. The Turtle Class have been using more non-fiction texts to help us gain new knowledge about nature and the world around us.      We also enjoyed a walk along Bowen Road last week, where the class had the opportunity to experience our co-existence with nature.
