Moving on to Primary!

Image
In our recent sessions, we explored the captivating world of Chinese painting by introducing essential tools and basic techniques of calligraphy. During circle time, we engaged the children with tutorial videos that showcased the elegant art of painting animals and bamboo. This visual exploration not only captivated their attention but also served as inspiration for their own artistic expressions. After the video presentations, the children had the opportunity to unleash their creativity through painting. We were truly impressed by their imaginative interpretations and the unique styles they brought to their artwork. In addition to our artistic endeavors, we aimed to prepare the children for the transition to primary school. To facilitate this, we read a delightful story titled "My School" (我的学校), providing insights into what they can expect in a primary school setting. We also looked at pictures of different ESF school campuses and discussed which schools the children will b...

Time to reflect

Image
The following books have helped us explore important skills and concepts, including open-mindedness, courage and perspective in the Turtle Class. Incorporating a variety of artistic activities have also encouraged us to unpack these ideas further!  Last week, we took time to reflect on our strengths, which has helped boost the children's self-esteem and encouraged them to consider their passions and areas of expertise. This activity also allowed the class to connect with peers who share similar strengths. We read a heartwarming story highlighting the importance of reflection and celebrating our individuality. From our reflections, the class has shared their areas of expertise and will have an opportunity to run their own Small Group activity this week to teach their classmates various skills, such as drawing, caring for the planet, sports and making jelly!  The Turtle Class are in full swing of practising for their special Celebration of Learning performance on Friday, and we ...

Exciting Learning Experiences!

Image
Dear Parents and Caregivers, I am pleased to share that our students have had a fruitful learning experience over the past few weeks. We began by exploring feelings and emotions while delving into the art of ink painting. Through the story "我有一盏小灯笼" (I Have a Little Lantern), children learned how to cope with fear and express gratitude to those who support us in times of need.  The ink painting style of the illustrations allowed them to experiment with adjusting ink and water to create beautiful ink flow paintings. As we approach the Dragon Boat Festival, we explored the festival through the story "小粽子,小粽子" (Little Sticky Rice Dumpling) during our Chinese Assembly. The children learned about various types of sticky rice dumplings and enjoyed a lively discussion about their favorite flavors. We then deepened our understanding of the traditional festival "端午节" (Dragon Boat Festival) through the story "晶晶划龙舟" (Jingjing's Rowing on the Dragon Boa...

Open-mindedness can create new opportunities

Dear Turtle Class Families, The Turtles have continued to be excellent communicators, who have expressed themselves in a variety of ways! They have been performers and dancers, using many different types of body movements and facial expressions. This has all been fantastic practice for our upcoming Celebration of Learning performance on June 20th.  The Turtle Class demonstrated so much kindness and love toward Tilly the Turtle when it was her birthday on May 23rd (World Turtle Day). Many children made homemade birthday cards and brought her presents! We had a lovely day celebrating our beloved class Turtle, with party games and yummy birthday cake jelly!  After receiving a party invitation to Tilly's birthday party, the class was inspired to create invitations for their grown-ups to come to see our Celebration of Learning performance.  The Turtle Class chose a variety of materials to create their invitations and communicate what to expect at our Celebration of Learn...
